In trying to find and measure up to the expectations of others. We blind ourselves to the truth of who really are. Our real selves suffer in the shows of who we pretend to be fore others, in the hopes of gaining a false and dangerous sense of security.
The measure of acceptance we gain in the lies we tell through the false roles and characters we play, aren't enough to overcome the failures we believe ourselves to me on the one the inside.
We need to reevaluate our personal conceptions of who we are, and who God is to us personally.
I cannot accept the beliefs and norms of individuals or religious institutions. I have to ask myself what those concepts mean to be personally. I need to be honest with myself if I am establish a relationship with God.
